Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has accepted the chairmanship of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party, her spokesperson said Wednesday.
“I am honored to accept the Chairmanship of Lakas-CMD,” Duterte said in a statement released by her spokesperson, Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Garcia Frasco.
“Together with the party, I look forward to waging a successful campaign for Uniteam BBM-Sara, with the invaluable support of our fellow Filipinos,” she added.
This development comes after Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. offered to relinquish his position to Duterte.
The presidential daughter is running for vice president in the 2022 elections under the Lakas-CMD banner.
She joined Lakas-CMD last November 11 after resigning from her regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
She later filed her certificate of candidacy for vice president through substitution.
On Tuesday, Sara confirmed she would be running in the next year’s polls in tandem with presidential aspirant, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
